Christina Abraham, CAIR-Chicago Civil Rights Coordinator, represented a Muslim man in a mediation session with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The Arab American Action Network (AAAN) also played an invaluable role in the mediation session by having intern Menna Khalil serve as an interpreter for the Muslim man being represented.

EEOC mediation is an avenue for dispute resolution between the complaining employee and the employer. This session was brought because of an EEOC charge filed by a Muslim man who experienced discrimination based on his religion and national origin at work and was retaliated against for complaining about the harsh and discriminatory treatment he was subjected to by his supervisors and team leaders. Very shortly after complaining about the work conditions he was experiencing, the man was reprimanded falsely and then terminated.

The case remains under negotiations.
