CAIR-Chicago Attends National Immigration Conference

Following suite on Monday afternoon, immigrant organizations convened on the West Lawn of the Capitol Building to speak out against the anti-immigration legislation on the Senate Floor. In addition, Ms. Ahmed, along with members of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights met with representatives from U.S. House Representatives Jan Schakowsky, Mark Kirk, and Melissa Bean to discuss the need for comprehensive immigration reform.

On Tuesday March 28, a morning panel discussion on the debate on human rights and immigrant rights updated the audience on pending legislation and possible courses of action. A delegation, with members from CAIR-Chicago, CAIR-National, the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, and CIOGC met with representatives from Senator Obama and Senator Durbin’s offices to discuss the Senate version of the comprehensive immigration reform bill on the floor.
