One hundred and forty three people from 35 different countries packed the courtroom in the federal building and became citizens of the United States of America. Among them was one man, Mohammad Abbas, who had been waiting nearly two years after passing his citizenship exam.

CAIR-Chicago attorney Heena Musabji filed a complaint in district court on behalf of Abbas, requesting the court to make a determination on his application and grant him citizenship. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) subsequently expedited Abbas’ case and granted his application for citizenship.

CAIR-Chicago continues to represent Muslims who have been unreasonably delayed in the process for naturalization.
