Thank you for printing “Ramadan Reflections,” which features firsthand accounts by Muslim college students celebrating Ramadan in the United States.

Too often, articles on Islam in the U.S. neglect to include the voices of American Muslims themselves. With such keen interest in Muslims and Islam, it is imperative that Muslims are able to speak for themselves. Several students, when describing the challenges of fasting in the food-centric U.S., spoke of the support offered by friends of other faiths. One Muslim student even described how friends would fast along with her at her Catholic high school.

It is encouraging to read these powerful examples of pluralism, which give a fuller understanding of religious diversity in the U.S. Thank you for allowing readers to hear from these students in their own words.
