CAIR-Chicago proudly congratulates Sufyan Sohel, a CAIR-Chicago Civil Rights Law Clerk, on receiving recognition by the prestigious PSLawNet Pro Bono Publico Award. Sohel, a third year student at DePaul University College of Law, was nominated by DePaul and placed second in the national competition.

PSLawNet awardees are chosen from among law students who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to public service and volunteer work.

PSLawNet reviewed outstanding applicants from around the nation, but Sohel’s record of pro bono and public service work made him a clear standout.

In just two years of law school, Sohel has accumulated over 268 hours of pro bono work. He has been a member of the CAIR-Chicago Civil Rights team since the summer of 2009. During his time at CAIR-Chicago, Sohel has worked tirelessly on numerous cases and has been instrumental in a recent class action lawsuit filed on behalf of 200 illegally terminated Somali workers.

Sohel also dedicates time to assist the Indo-American Legal Clinic in addressing the legal needs of Chicago’s South Asian Community. At DePaul, he serves as a student leader in the school’s Pro Bono & Community Service Initiative, is the Editor-in-Chief for DePaul’s Rule of Law Journal, sits on both the Committee for Public Interest and the University Ministry Advisory Board, and has worked as a volunteer intern for DePaul’s International Human Rights Law Institute.
