Employment

  • A Muslim man reported that he applied for a job and did not get it because of his beard and his nationality. CAIR-Chicago has advised him of his legal options.
  • A Muslim man working at a social establishment reported being passed over for a promotion after his employer learned his nationality. CAIR-Chicago has advised him of his legal options.
  • A Muslim woman working in a public school reports discriminatory treatment by her principal who restricts her freedom of expression more than that of her coworkers. CAIR-Chicago will continue to monitor the situation.
  • A Muslim teacher faces possible suspension based on a charge that she assaulted a student. CAIR-Chicago has advised her of her legal options.

Criminal

  • The garage of a Muslim man’s home was painted with graffiti and a window of his vehicle was broken. CAIR-Chicago will continue to monitor the situation.

Government

  • A Muslim man faces the possibility of deportation after unsuccessfully filing for a green card. CAIR-Chicago has advised him of his legal options.
  • A Muslim woman reported problems she faced while trying to travel by air. CAIR-Chicago has advised her of her legal options.
  • A Muslim man and his three children report experiencing delays in obtaining citizenship. CAIR-Chicago is incorporating these cases into its Citizenship Delay Project.
