WGN: Muslim Family Claims Discrimination at Public Pool

Complaints of discrimination were filed by a Muslim family against the Cook County Forest Preserve.
The complaints claim that county employees at a public pool kicked a Muslim family out because of what they were wearing.
The family says it was kept from entering the Cermak Family Aquatic Center in Lyons in 2009.
They claim the manager stopped the mother because she was wearing a long dress and a head scarf.
The father and children were denied entry because their swimsuits were made of the wrong material.
The Council on the American-Islamic Relations civil rights director Christina Abraham says they were just wearing T-shirts.
One of the family’s complaints asks Cook County to take action.
The other complaint seeks monetary compensation.
County officials have not commented on the complaints.
