On Thursday December 15th, 2011 – the 220th anniversary of the signing of the Bill of Rights into law – CAIR-Chicago’s deputy director Sufyan Sohel, along with members of the interfaith community, spoke at a rally in Federal Plaza in downtown Chicago to oppose new provisions introduced as part of the National Defense Authorization Act.

CAIR-Chicago is urging American Muslims and other people of conscience to contact President Obama and urge him to veto the National Defense Authorization Act (H.R.1540), which authorizes the military to arrest and indefinitely detain American citizens suspected of terrorism without charge or trial.

Amina Sharif is the communications coordinator for the Council on American-Islamic Relations Chicago Chapter. She speaks with Vocalo’s Shantell Jamison about the recent Lowe’s decision to pull ad space from TLC’s “All American Muslim” program and what this says about the American sentiment of Islam.

Amina Sharif, CAIR-Chicago’s Communications Coordinator, led a cultural awareness seminar on Islam and Muslims at the Tinley Park Police Department on November 30th. The department invited Sharif in light of the growing population of Muslims and Arabs in the area.

Come and join other Americans of conscience in opposing the provisions of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012 which will allow indefinite detentions without a trial. Call on President Obama to veto NDAA 2012 if it contains these unconstitutional provisions.

“It’s a stupid decision morally and a stupid decision economically,” said Ahmed Rehab, executive director of the Council on Islamic-American Relations Chicago. “They need to acknowledge their error and that they got duped by right-wing bigots, apologize and resume their ads.”
