Thank the Chicago Sun-Times for Positive Editorial
February 29, 2008
CAIR-Chicago is urging American Muslims and other people of conscience to thank the Sun-Times for a staff editorial challenging disgraceful fear-mongering in the presidential campaigns. The editorial reads in part, “Not that there is anything wrong, we sadly feel the need to add, with being a Muslim.”
HATS OFF TO OBAMA FOR BEING EAGER TO ENGAGE THE WORLD
Barack Obama looks good in that traditional Somali get-up he wore in Kenya. He looks like the American president many voters hope he would be -- global in his perspective and inclined to build bridges among peoples and nations.
Whoever circulated the two-year-old photo of Obama, whether Hillary Clinton's campaign or somebody else, did the senator an unintended favor. They reminded voters of precisely the sort of faux political flaps that voters have grown weary of; and they reminded voters that there is a more sophisticated alternative to the bellicose diplomacy of the Bush administration.
Does the photo reveal Obama as some sort of secret Muslim? Of course not. (Not that there is anything wrong, we sadly feel the need to add, with being a Muslim). Does it reveal a man of breadth and learning eager to engage the world? Sure looks that way.
