Civil Liberties are Most Important

Response to Daily Herald’s “No place now for political correctness”

I would like to remind Tony Scaminaci that it is the protection of civil rights in the United States that allows his letter criticizing Washington lawmakers to be published (“No place now for political correctness,” Aug. 14). Scaminaci wants civil liberties to be ignored in order to fight terrorism, yet does not realize this will mean the civil liberties of everyone, including himself, will be curtailed. Soon not only will you be thrown in jail for owning books on terrorism, but also for writing a critical letter of the government that causes someone to label you as treasonous.
