Last week, some 330 delegates from more than 28 states met with 225 elected officials and congressional staffers during the “record-breaking” second National Muslim Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
Gerald Hankerson, CAIR-Chicago’s Outreach Coordinator, represented the Illinois Muslim community. Along with members from ICNA-Chicago, Hankerson coordinated meetings with nine congressional offices representing Chicagoland and downstate communities.
The lobbying effort, the largest congressional Muslim advocacy event in the country, is sponsored by the US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO), a coalition of leading national and local American Muslim organizations.
Participants posted photos and commentary about National Muslim Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill on social media using the hashtag #MuslimHillDay.
