On Saturday October 7, 2017, the South Asian Bar Association of Chicago (SABA-Chicago) awarded the Travelers Assistance Project (TAP) with the SABA-Chicago 2017 Grassroots Award.
This award honors and celebrates the activists and groups who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to a grassroots cause. This year, they chose to award TAP for organizing the 1000+ volunteer attorneys who came out in response to the Muslim Travel Ban and providing around-the-clock legal relief and support to affected travelers and their families.
Sufyan Sohel, CAIR-Chicago’s Deputy Director & Counsel, accepted the award on behalf of all those committed to continuing the fight against the Muslim Ban and those with an unwavering dedication to civil rights advocacy.
“ What an honor!” says Sufyan. “This award belongs to every attorney who showed up to O’Hare, who answers our hotline, and who is committed to continue to speak out and work to protect the rights of those affected”
