CAIR-Chicago Amicably Resolves Incident Between Area Public School and Muslim Employee

CAIR-Chicago helped to amicably resolve a situation involving an area public school’s negative portrayal of Islam and Muslims during a presentation on gang violence. The presenter began talking about the Quran, and how some gang members recite verses of the Quran and base their hierarchy on the Quran. He also told the audience that these gang members sell Qurans on the street. Upon hearing of the incident from a Muslim employee who attended the presentation, CAIR-Chicago immediately contacted the Board of Education to address the issue. The Board of Education and the school’s principal subsequently took action by hearing the complaint of the Muslim employee who reported the incident. It has since then been reported to CAIR-Chicago that the Board and the school have been more aware of how Islam and Muslims should be portrayed in presentations. copyright © 2005, cairchicago.org
