CAIR-Chicago to Sponsor Blood Drive

On Thursday, July 17, CAIR-Chicago, in cooperation with other organizations, will co-sponsor its fourth biannual blood drive at the Downtown Islamic Center in Chicago, Ill. The blood drive is part of CAIR’s annual summer-long “Muslims Care” campaign, which is designed to encourage volunteerism in the American Muslim community.

The drive is co-sponsored by the Compassionate Care Network, the free health clinic run by the Inner City Muslim Action Network (IMAN), and LifeSource, the largest blood center in Illinois serving approximately 60 area hospitals.

WHAT: CAIR-Chicago and Muslims Care 4th Sponsored Blood Drive

WHY: On a typical day, 1,500 blood donors are needed to meet patient's needs in the Chicagoland area. Blood is needed to save the lives of people undergoing surgery for trauma or heart disease; for persons suffering from bleeding disorders; for patients with severe burns; and for patients undergoing chemotherapy for cancer.

Each unit of blood donated potentially saves three lives.

WHEN: Thursday, July 17, 2008. 10a.m.- 4p.m

WHO: If you are a person over the age of 17, weigh more than 110 lbs, have not donated in the past 2 months, have no significant heath problems, and have not traveled to Asia or Africa within the last 12 months, you can donate.
