Amina Sharif Teaches UIC Students Lessons in Public Relations

Amina Sharif, CAIR-Chicago’s Communications Coordinator, presented at the University ofIllinois at Chicago (UIC) to the students of the Media and Professional Writing class on Tuesday, November 15, 2011. Sharif’s main purpose was to enlighten students on Public Relations and Communications, and their significant role in how social justice works.  She explained that marketing and communications is integral to the success of any movement along with legal advocacy and community organizing.  Sharif used CAIR-Chicago as an example to illustrate how various departments work to fight bigotry through various channels.

She offered insights and advice to the students, some of whom will soon be graduating, on how to navigate today’s tough job market.  Sharif also described her career path, providing guidance to those interested in pursuing a career Public Relations.

The English 202 course readies students for writing in a professional work place by integrating all forms of media, ranging from business letters to blogging.  Sharif has been speaking to this class every semester since 2009.
