CAIR-Chicago applauds Senate for passing immigration reform

The Chicago chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR-Chicago) would like to applaud the Senate for passing Senate Bill 744. The passage of the Border Security, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Modernization Act through Senate is a critical step in the right direction. We are pleased with the strong bipartisan support of the bill. The bills passage is a victory for those who have been working on the issue for years.

CAIR-Chicago would like to acknowledge Senator Richard Durbin for his strong leadership to make certain our immigrant families have a real opportunity to achieve the American Dream. We would like to also thank Senator Mark Kirk for realizing the importance for supporting the legislation.

CAIR-Chicago urges the leadership of the Illinois Republican Party, GOP Chairman Jack Dorgan and Republican Congressman and Chief Deputy Whip Peter Roskam, to take leadership in moving forward on bipartisan immigration reform to ensure that our immigrant families have a chance to stay together.

Today the Senate did its job for passing Senate Bill 744 and now its up to the House of Representatives to do the same. As this process moves forward CAIR-Chicago urges everyone who cares about this issue to keep a watchful eye to ensure the bipartisan effort does not fall apart.
