CAIR-Chicago Recognizes Native Americans

On Monday, CAIR-Chicago chose to remember the lives of the Native Americans who settled on American soil prior to Christopher Colombus' arrival and still live under difficult conditions in the United States. We recognized Indigenous Peoples Day and commend cities like Seattle, Washington; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Portland, Oregon; St. Paul, Minnesota; and Olympia, Washington that have officially recognized the day. At least nine cities, including the ones previously mentioned, have chosen to acknowledge the history of the indigenous people and their contributions, rather than celebrate the history of conquest and mistreatment associated with the arrival of Colombus to the Americas. We hope to see Chicago and other cities follow in the footsteps of the aforementioned in the near future, and encourage the public to understand this bias history and make your voices heard by local governments to create pressure for change.
