A Vigil to Remember: Remembering Hassiba Belbachir
September 17, 2005

WHAT - On March 17, 2005, Hassiba Belbachir, a 27 year old Algerian citizen, died under suspicious circumstances while in US federal custody at the McHenry County Adult Correctional Facility in Illinois. Prison authorities concluded her death was a result of suicide, but her family disagrees, asking the US government for a federal investigation into the cause of her death.

The Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago (CIOGC) and the Muslim Community Center (MCC) is hosting a vigil to remember Hassiba and reflect on the current situation of immigrants, women and Muslims in the prison system.

SPEAKER – Among the speakers will be Christina Abraham, CAIR-Chicago Civil Rights Coordinator, speaking about prison abuse

WHEN - 3 PM, September 17, 2005

WHERE - Muslim Community Center, 4380 N. Elston, Chicago
