CAIR-Chicago Meets with 6th Congressional District Democratic Candidate Christine Cegalis
March 7, 2006

CAIR-Chicago Communications Director Ahmed Rehab and Governmental Relations Coordinator Sadiya Ahmed met with Democratic candidate Christine Cegalis running for U.S. Congress on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 in her Lombard campaign headquarters. Discussed was Ms. Cegalis’ position on issues pertinent to the Muslim community such as the war in Iraq, the status of Muslim American Civil Rights and Liberties, and Project O, CAIR-Chicago’s non-partisan political mobilization initiative. Ms. Cegalis expressed her concern about U.S. involvement with the Iraqi government, commenting that giving Iraqis the autonomy to construct their own government is needed. Further, she stated her opposition to the USA PATRIOT Act and expressed her interest in working to restore civil rights and liberties.

Ms. Cegalis is running for the Democratic ticket in the 6th congressional district against two other candidates. The winner of the primaries on March 21st will run against the Republican candidate during the November election.
