June 14, 2006

CAIR-Chicago Governmental Relations Coordinator Sadiya Ahmed attended an Asian American consultation dinner sponsored by the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights ICIRR) on Wednesday, June 14, hosted by the law offices of Sidley & Austin. The meeting was held to discuss issues of concern for the Asian American community as they relate to political activism, specifically on immigration. Represented at the meeting were the Indian, Chinese, Korean, Filipino, and Muslim communities who suggested ways to bring about political activism in the relatively young immigrant communities. Discussion also centered on ways to bring different generations of Asian immigrants together, from different communities, to work together more effectively. Organizations like the Indo-American Center, Indo-American Democratic Organization, American Filipinos for Immigration Reform, Korean American Resource Center, Muslim Women’s Resource Center, and CAIR-Chicago were present at the meeting.
