CAIR-Chicago Participates in National Citizenship Day Event

As part of "A New Americans Initiative" Project, the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR), in cooperation with the Illinois Department of Human Services, hosted a celebration for National Citizenship Day at Little Village High School in Chicago. Thousands of people came out to support this initiative and began their citizenship application processes.

CAIR-Chicago's Attorney Heena Musabji, as well as Civil Rights Interns Sarah Sipe and Sarah Terman, were involved in the event. They hosted a booth to educate the public on the Citizenship Delay Project, and conducted client intake.& nbsp; Furthermore, they assisted individuals in filling out citizenship applications.

The day began with a rally, after which government officials, such as Governor Blagojevich spoke. Personal accounts were also relayed by individuals concerning their citizenship procedures. The event was highly organized, with language designated sections, and was great for community building. CAIR-Chicago's Governmental Relations Coordinator Sadiya Ahmed worked with other organizations to organize this event.
