CAIR-Chicago Represents Muslim Man at Status Hearing in Police Misconduct Case
July 9, 2007

CAIR-Chicago Staff Attorney Rima Kapitan represented a Muslim man in a status hearing regarding a traffic ticket he received after being pulled over and arrested by police. The man was detained for several hours, subjected to derogatory remarks about his religion and national origin and fined over $700. He also had his chauffeur’s license suspended, which is his only means of earning a living Attorney Rima Kapitan was able to have the man’s chauffeur’s license reissued. CAIR-Chicago will continue to work on reversing the fines that were imposed and will pursue all other means necessary to address police misconduct, including the racist comments that were directed at him.
