CAIR-Chicago Participates in Racial Profiling Taskforce Public Hearing
February 18, 2006

CAIR-Chicago Governmental Relations Coordinator Sadiya Ahmed attended the Governor’s Racial Profiling Taskforce Public Hearing at the Bilandic Center on Saturday, February 18, 2006. The public hearing provided the opportunity for community members to provide feedback on the recommendations that the Racial Profiling Taskforce is planning on proposing to the Governor. Among recommended changes are: making the original four year study permanent, the addition of data collected on traffic stop duration, a permanent oversight board consisting of community organizations and law enforcement officials that will examine underreported minorities such as people of Middle Eastern origin. Present at the hearing were state senators, representatives from the ACLU, NAAP, CAIR-Chicago, Illinois State Police, and Chicago Police Department.
