Religious Accommodation Issue at Local University Settled
February 1, 2007

A Muslim university student attending a Christian university was being required to attend weekly Christian devotional prayer services. Feeling that her strongly held religious beliefs were being compromised, the student requested having the requirement waived.

The student contacted CAIR-Chicago after the university refused to accommodate her religious beliefs by waiving the requirement. CAIR-Chicago contacted the university regarding the policy.

Soon after, the university worked with the student so that she would not be required to attend the prayer services, and agreed to waive the fees she had incurred as a result of not attending the prior semester.
