CAIR-Chicago to Host “Taste of Ramadan” Cook-Off TONIGHT
A Hundred Guests will Gather to Break Bread, Enjoy Diverse Cuisine
(CHICAGO, 09/10/09) - CAIR-Chicago is hosting a “Taste of Ramadan – Cook-Off and Iftar” this evening at its downtown office. Around one hundred friends and supporters of CAIR-Chicago are expected to attend.
Iftar is an Arabic term that refers to the meal eaten when Muslims break their fast during the Islamic month of Ramadan. Iftar is often done as a community, with Muslims gathering to break their fast together.
Meals will be prepared by CAIR-Chicago staff members in a potluck "cook off" for which guests will serve as judges and vote on the best dish. Dinner items will reflect the diversity of the Muslim community, with cuisine from East Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, and the Americas. (China, India, Turkey, Algeria, England, and America)
Guests will break bread at sunset, which is at approximately 7:09 PM. This will be immediately followed by congregational prayer.
All are welcome to come enjoy the food and good company.
