Muslims in America and across the world mourn the loss of spiritual leader Imam Warith Deen Mohammed. Mohammed, the son of the Honorable Elijah Mohammed, was a reformer, educator, civil rights advocate, interfaith activist, and an international goodwill ambassador. He is also known for moving thousands of African-Americans into mainstream Islam after breaking away from his father's group.

"He is someone who will be remembered for preaching the unity of God but also things like economic independence, freedom of thought and self-reliance," said Ahmed Rehab, Council on American-Islamic Relations executive director.
