“American Muslims are not a threat to this nation,” said Ahmed Rehab, executive director of the Chicago chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations. “The threat to this nation is those who would divide us based on race, faith or ethnicity because those are the ones who undermine our values.”
CAIR-Chicago’s office will be closed today as it mobilizes the Muslim community to let their voice be heard by a strong voter representation this Election Day.
Are you over the age of 18 or will be before November 4, 2008? Are you a U.S. citizen? Have you moved recently from another state or changed addresses locally?
If you are a registered voter in the State of Illinois, don’t forget to vote! Polls are open from 6 am to 7 pm on Election Day so you can vote before you go to work, school, or your way home!
As Election Day nears, local Muslim advocacy groups are working to get out the vote.
Are you a U.S. citizen over the age of 18 and have not registered to vote? The deadline to vote in the Illinois Primary Elections is fast approaching. In fact, the last day to register is Tuesday, October 10, 2006.
With goals of mobilizing 45,000 people to come to the polls on November 7, 5,000 people in the weeks prior to Election Day, and 15,000 new voter registrations additions in the state of Illinois, CAIR-Chicago, along with the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights and other host organizations, has launched an electoral summer campaign.
Volunteers are also needed to knock on doors on Election Day! This year’s primary is very important for the Muslim community and we need to mobilize to and get out to the polls!
