CAIR-Chicago is working with Patricia M. Rodriguez Mosquera, Assistant Professor of Psychology at Wesleyan University, in conducting the second phase of her research on the psychological impact of Islamophobia on Muslim Americans.

“We’re living in a world now where there is no room for totalitarianism, dictatorships and oppression,” said Christina Abraham, civil rights director for the Council of American-Islamic Relations in Chicago. “When we see these movements happening, we need to support them. We don’t give leeway to governments that violate human rights, like the Assad government is doing right now.”

The ISNA Convention is a meeting place of people and ideas, where American Muslims discuss their role in society, politics, media, activism, and education. The event will feature numerous world renowned scholars and Muslim leaders. CAIR-Chicago’s executive director, Ahmed Rehab, will be presenting on two panels over the weekend. On Saturday, Rehab will be presenting to youth groups on the importance of staying abreast of current events and contributing to society, and on Sunday he will discuss how social media is making a difference within the realm of activism, media outreach and pluralism.

This Sunday join thousands in downtown Chicago to rally in support of the Syrian people’s struggle for democracy and freedom.

Since demonstrations in Syria began in March, it is estimated that nearly 1,500 people have been killed, 2,000 wounded, 20,000 imprisoned, and close to 1,000 forced disappearances.

CAIR-Chicago will be taking part in two lectures this weekend at the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) convention. The convention is the largest annual gathering of Muslims in North America; over 30,000 people are expected to attend this year.

CAIR-Chicago also says goodbye to its former Chairman, Safaa Zarzour, who will now be serving as the Secretary General of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA). He will be missed.

This past Labor Day weekend CAIR participated in the 43rd Annual ISNA convention, the largest for Muslims in North America.
