PRESS RELEASE: Chicago-Area Mosque Raises Record Donations for Earthquake Relief

(Bridgeview, IL 02/14/2023) – CAIR-Chicago today said that The Mosque Foundation, one of the largest Mosques in Illinois and the nation and a long-time CAIR-Chicago partner, responded to the massive earthquake that struck Turkiye and Northern Syria on February 6, with a major fundraising campaign totaling $510,000 so far. The American Muslim community nationwide has raised over $100 million dollars for earthquake relief efforts to date, between local mosques, national charities, and private giving.

CAIR-Chicago is proud of the Mosque Foundation community who stepped up with enormous generosity in the face of tragedy. Funds collected are disbursed through vetted relief agencies working on the ground.

"The devastation is beyond imagination, especially in Northern Syria, where international relief efforts are lacking," said the Mosque Foundation President, Dr. Raed Abusuwwa. "Thankfully, our generous community, with their hearts filled with compassion, emptied their pockets to aid in the rescue and recovery efforts, raising more than half a million dollars over the past few days."

The death toll continually rises with each passing hour due to the powerful earthquakes and aftershocks. Over 33,000 are counted dead, and thousands are injured and trapped under the wreckage.

CAIR-Chicago and The Mosque Foundation encourage all to assist in life-saving and recovery efforts. Supporters can contribute to the relief efforts at bit.ly/TurkiyeRelief.
