Apology Issued After Woman Asked to Remove Hijab for School ID Photo

CAIR-Chicago aided a woman to confront her university’s photo ID policy after she was asked to remove her headscarf (hijab) in order to take a photograph for her student ID. University employees told the woman that she could not wear her headscarf because she was not wearing the headscarf in her driver’s license photograph. The university’s employees still refused to take the picture with the headscarf on even after she informed them that at the time the photograph was taken she was not practicing wearing the headscarf. The university issued an apology after it was confronted with the incident, and subsequently allowed the Muslim student to take the photograph with her headscarf on.
