Media Advisory: Mayor Daley to Preside at Mosque Foundation Garden Ceremony

(Chicago, IL 11/10/06) - Today the Chicago office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations announced that this Monday, November 13, Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley will preside over the grand opening ceremony of the Mosque Foundation Garden at Northerly Island, south of the Adler Planetarium. Local elected officials and members of the Chicago Muslim and interfaith communities will be in attendance. The ceremony commences at 9 am. "The Muslim community of the Mosque Foundation is very proud to contribute to the Chicago Park District's efforts to develop beautiful spaces and connect Chicagoans with nature for generations to come," said mosque board president, Dr. M. Zaher Sahloul.

He added, "The Mosque Foundation Garden demonstrates our community's belief that nature must be preserved in our urban areas."

The Mosque Foundation of Bridgeview was established in 1967 and opened its doors in 1981. It serves approximately 25,000 worshippers in the southwest suburbs and is one of the leading Islamic centers in the Midwest, devoted to providing spiritual, religious, social, and educational services to Muslim families and individuals in south west suburban Chicago.
