CAIR-Chicago Sensitivity Speaker to Lecture at Loyola - Understanding Islam and Muslim Students

CAIR-Chicago Sensitivity Training Coordinator, Veronica Zapata will be lecturing on the subject of “Understanding Islam and Muslim Students” as a part of a new course at Loyola University set to begin April 5, 2008. The course aims to increase the understanding of non-Muslim educators and intellectuals throughout the Chicagoland area and nearby suburbs. Encourage Others to Attend

The event is open to the public, and CAIR-Chicago is encouraging the Muslim community to attend with friends, colleagues, and neighbors, as an opportunity to form an enriched understanding of Muslims and Islam.

Understanding Muslims

Given the large Muslim population throughout the Chicagoland area and the United States, it is important to ensure an accurate perception of Islam and its practitioners. This course provides such an opportunity in an academic environment.

Course Topics

To be presented: A brief history of Islam, the fundamental beliefs of Muslims, Muslim demographics in the U.S. and worldwide. This course is consistent with the Social Studies IL-learning Standards and is a part of Loyola's International Series Focus.
