Civil Rights Director Christina Abraham Represents Man at Unemployment Hearing

CAIR-Chicago Civil Rights Director Christina Abraham represented a man at his unemployment benefits hearing. The man was fired from his job for alleged absenteeism. Although the man had a scheduled vacation, he was asked to come into work during his vacation. The man had verbally agreed with his manager to extend his vacation time to make up for the time he had worked. However, after returning at the later agreed upon date, he was fired by another manager.

The administrative law judge on the case ruled that the employer failed to establish that the man had willfully and deliberately violated its policy.

The hearing resulted in the Illinois Department of Employment Security granting unemployment benefits for the man.
