Media Advisory: Chicago Coalition to Protest Boeing 'Torture Flights'
(CHICAGO, IL, 4/27/09) On Monday, April 27, the Coalition to Ground Torture Flights will hold a protest and news conference at the annual Boeing shareholder’s meeting to demand that the company respond to allegations that it is an active participant in so-called “torture flights.” The broad-based Coalition members include the Chicago chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Chicago), the Chicago Committee to Defend the Bill of Rights (CCDBR), the 8th Day Center for Justice, and the American Friends Service Committee – Chicago.
“Jeppesen's assistance to the CIA in transporting suspects to foreign countries solely for the purpose of torture remains reprehensible,” said Staff Attorney Kevin Vodak. “We must not let corporations be complicit or feign ignorance at such inhumane acts.”
The protest is a part of the Coalition’s campaign to educate Boeing shareholders and the general public that Boeing is profiting from torture and to demand that Boeing account for and cease its provision of services to CIA torture flights. Boeing is headquartered in Chicago.

An ongoing ACLU lawsuit charges that Jeppesen, a wholly owned subsidiary of Boeing, sold direct flight services to the CIA that enabled the delivery of captives in U.S. custody to secret overseas locations where "friendly governments" as well as CIA operatives carried out and arranged their torture.
CAIR-Chicago, a chapter of America's largest Muslim civil rights group, is a founding member of the Coalition to Ground Torture Flights.
