Muslim Group Applauds International Effort to Foil Cargo Bomb Plot

CAIR Applauds International Effort to Foil Cargo Bomb Plot

(CHICAGO, 10/30/10) – A prominent national Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization today applauded the efforts of law enforcement and intelligence agencies in the United States, Europe and the Middle East to foil an apparent plot to ship packages containing explosives from Yemen to synagogues in Chicago.

In a statement by the Chicago chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Chicago), Communications Coordinator Amina Sharif said:

"We commend law enforcement for performing their duties admirably and protecting this country.  The Muslim community unequivocally condemns these acts, as with all terrorist threats to innocent civilians, which go against the basic tenets of the Islamic faith.  We abhor all attacks against religion and religious institutions and stand by our friends in the Jewish community, who were potential targets in this plot."

CAIR-Chicago is a chapter of the largest Muslim civil liberties group, which has 35 chapters nationwide and in Canada. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
