Amina Sharif and Kevin Vodak participate in "Not in My Backyard"

On April 23rd, Staff Attorney Kevin Vodak, and Communications Coordinator Amina Sharif participated in a summit about the zoning process for mosques in Illinois.

Sixty leaders from the Chicago Muslim community met, including Mosque presidents, board members, organizers, attorneys and traffic experts.  Part of the summit was dedicated to advice for those applying for construction permits, engaging public officials, and dealing with the media.

The summit aimed to deal with the challenges that Muslim organizations across the country are have been facing when trying to build mosques and learning centers.

"I hope the summit was beneficial to the representatives of various mosques who were in attendance.  Efforts like this will ensure that our community can advocate on behalf of mosques even more effectively in the future," said Sharif.
