Join Ahmed Rehab at Loyola University's Fast-A-Thon!

CAIR-Chicago's Ahmed Rehab will be giving the keynote speech at Loyola University's Fast-A-Thon this Tuesday sponsored by the Muslim Student Association (MSA) at Loyola University Chicago. The Fast-A-Thon calls on students and faculty to abstain from all food and drink from sunrise to sunset that Tuesday in order to show support and solidarity for those who suffer from hunger around the world. Join CAIR-Chicago and Loyola University for free food and giveaways!

Loyola’s MSA organizes the Fast-A-Thon in conjunction with Loyola’s Hunger Week, and the money from the event will be directly contributed to previously chosen beneficiaries at the local, national, and global levels.

Proceeds will be given to:

1) Local: The Greater Chicago Food Depository is a food distribution and training center providing food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in our community. The Food Depository distributes donated and purchased food through a network of 600 pantries, soup kitchens and shelters to almost a half-million adults and children every year. Last year, the Food Depository distributed more than 58 million pounds of non-perishable food and fresh produce, dairy products and meat, the equivalent of more than 119,000 meals every day. Innovative training programs and initiatives developed by the Food Depository also work to provide men, women and children with the tools necessary to break their individual cycles of poverty. www.chicagosfoodbank.org

2) National: Share our Strength (SOS) is a national organization that works hard to make sure no kid in America grows up hungry. SOS raises funds through its pioneering culinary events (Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation, Great American Dine Out, A Tasteful Pursuit and Great American Bake Sale) and awards grants to support successful organizations across the country that work to provide children and their families with the healthy food they need. www.strength.org

3) Global: Action Against Hunger is part of the ACF International Network, an agency established specifically to combat global hunger. The mission of Action Against Hunger is to save lives by eliminating hunger through the prevention, detection, and treatment of malnutrition, especially during and after emergency situations of conflict, war and natural disaster. From crisis to sustainability, they tackle the underlying causes of malnutrition and its effects by using our expertise in nutrition, food security, water and sanitation, health and advocacy. By integrating their programs with local and national systems they further ensure that short-term interventions become long-term solutions. www.actionagainsthunger.org
