CAIR-Chicago to Host Theater Event Confronting Islamophobia

CAIR-Chicago invites you to attend a workshop presented by Silk Road Rising Artistic Director, and award winning playwright, Jamil Khoury on Thursday, March 12th, 6 pm - 8 pm. The event is FREE and open to the public.

At the event, Khoury will introduce his latest work-in-progress, Mosque Alert, and share select video clips from the groundbreaking new play development and civic engagement process he has created online. Khoury's talk will address questions of religious pluralism, Islamophobia, and civil rights, drawing upon local, national, and international contexts.

Mosque Alert explores resistance to the building of mosques in communities across the U.S. with a specific focus on two families, one Muslim, the other Christian, living in Naperville, IL. In 2013, Mosque Alert received the ChangeMaker Award in recognition of the project's contributions towards creating a socially just environment for Muslim Americans.

After the presentation, the audience will be invited to participate in a talk-back with Khoury and to share their personal experiences and comment upon the fictional scenarios created in Mosque Alert.

The event is 90 minutes long and includes a speech by Khoury, screening of a video, and a discussion with attendees. To learn more and make a reservation for this event visit Silk Road Rising's website here!

ABOUT SILK ROAD RISING

Founded in response to the widespread discrimination and xenophobia sparked by the attacks of September 11, 2001, Silk Road Rising produces live and online theatre that tells stories from primarily Asian American and Middle Eastern American perspectives. Wielding art as a tool, we dismantle stereotypes and seek to humanize Silk Road peoples in the sphere of American theatre. Our mission is to advance a polycultural worldview, celebrating and embracing the diverse ways in which communities overlap, intersect, and enrich each other.
