CAIR-Chicago Calls for Police Accountability

CAIR-Chicago encourages community members to join activists in a #BlackLivesMatter solidarity march on August 29 at noon. Numerous organizations, including the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (CAARPR), Black Lives Matter Movement, We Charge Genocide, CIOGC, and Fearless Leading by the Youth, are calling for Chicago Police Department (CPD) accountability.

In the past eight years, the CPD has shot 400 individuals. Out of these 400 shootings, only one shooting was deemed unjustified by city officials. The CPD’s lack of accountability and overt racial profiling affects members of all minority communities, including Muslims, Sikhs, Arabs, and South-Asians.

Local activists demand an elected, civilian, police accountability council to ensure unbiased and responsible policing. Racial profiling and police brutality are horrific injustices, and CAIR-Chicago calls upon our community members to join us in vehemently condemning these acts.

Join the movement for equality and accountability on Saturday, August 29 at noon. The march will begin at the Federal Building in downtown Chicago and end at City Hall.

CAIR-Chicago also encourages all members of the community to learn more about your rights when interacting with law enforcement on our website. To request a Know Your Rights presentation, please contact CAIR-Chicago.
