CAIR-Chicago’s Renner Larson Reflects About 9/11 on Radio Islam

Last Thursday on September 10th, CAIR-Chicago’s Communications Coordinator Renner Larson was interviewed on Radio Islam by host Frederick al-Deen during a special broadcast on the eve of the 14th anniversary of 9/11, sharing his personal experience of the tragic attacks as well as shedding light onto the important work CAIR-Chicago does in fighting the type of Islamophobia that has taken root in the United States since 2001. Larson reiterated the goals CAIR-Chicago, focusing on the organization’s aim of providing a counter-narrative to negative and inaccurate portrayals of Islam and Muslims in the media. Al-Deen asked Larson about both his own past as it relates to social activism since the 9/11 attacks as well what motivates him to do the work that he does. Larson cited his family’s deep connection to the American values of tolerance and diversity, telling the host that his ancestors “shed blood” as soldiers in the Revolutionary War to protect the very ideas he currently fights to protect at his position at CAIR-Chicago. Larson’s interview is part of an hour-long segment on Radio Islam’s ‘The Eve of 9/11: A Remembrance.” The interview begins at the 19 minute mark.
