On May 15 and 16, members of CAIR-Chicago staff – Outreach Coordinator Gerald Hankerson, Communications Coordinator Hoda Katebi, and Deputy Director Sufyan Sohel – attended several On the Table Discussions throughout the city.

The Chicago Community Trust’s On the Table conversations are an annual forum designed to elevate civic conversation, foster new relationships, and inspire collaborative action across the region. Tens of thousands of Chicago-area residents gathered throughout the city in small groups to share a meal and discuss challenges that we face in society. Hosts included the Chicago Humanities Festival, Chicago Council of Global Affairs, Chicago Lawyers Committee, and others.  CAIR-Chicago participated in discussions that tackled Race & Equity, Equity & Inclusion, Criminalization of Communities of Color, Belief, Racialization of Violence, and How the benefits of a global city can be shared by all Chicago Residents.

Deputy Director Sohel reflected “These discussions were fantastic! My colleagues and I all enjoyed our respective conversations and appreciated the diversity in both the attendees and the viewpoints.  Its only through healthy discussion can we continue to dissect the problems facing our city and find ways to work together and solve these challenges”.
