CAIR-Chicago Attorney Attends Subpoena Hearing
September 26, 2006

CAIR-Chicago’s Attorney Rima Kapitan attended a hearing in Circuit Court concerning a subpoena asking for irrelevant information in a case regarding Academic Freedom.

This case involves a Professor who was at first reprimanded for speaking about Zionism in a lecture and was advised not to allow Muslims students to voice their opinions in class. After the Professor discussed this issue with his union representative, the University proceeded to dismiss him without following the appropriate procedures.

At the hearing today, the judge stated that it would be more appropriate for the matter to be decided by the arbitrator, and gave Mr. Giles two weeks to comply with the subpoena, subject to any decision of the arbitrator.

The matter is scheduled for arbitration on October 17th.
