      • Two Muslim men reported experiencing delays in obtaining their green card for permanent residency. CAIR-Chicago is following up with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) regarding these delays.

      • Two Muslim men contacted CAIR-Chicago regarding delays in obtaining citizenship. The men applied for citizenship, completed all the necessary requirements, but have not been scheduled for an oath. CAIR-Chicago is incorporating these cases into its Citizenship Delay Project.

      Public Accommodation

      • A Muslim woman wearing a headscarf (hijab) complained that after entering a jewelry store at a local mall, one of the sales clerks indicated to her that she would not be able to afford the items in the store, and told her to “go back to where [she] came from.” CAIR-Chicago is contacting the store and will take whatever action it deems necessary to resolve the matter.


      • A substitute teacher of a Chicago Public School made ignorant statements about Islam and Muslims to students of a 6th grade class at a local school. Among other comments, the teacher stated that if a woman were to go to the Middle East without a headscarf (hijab), then the Middle Eastern men there would beat her. CAIR-Chicago is contacting the Chicago Public Schools and administrators of the local school to resolve the matter.
