PRESS RELEASE: CAIR-Chicago Responds to Antisemitic

(CHICAGO, IL, 11/16/2022) The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned antisemitic vandalism targeting a Jewish cemetery in Waukegan.

Over two dozen headstones at the Am Echod Jewish Cemetery in Waukegan. 16 had swastikas spray painted on them. No arrests have been made as police continue to search for those responsible. Anyone with information is asked to call the Waukegan Police Department's tip line at 847-360-9001.

In a statement, CAIR-Chicago Executive Director Ahmed Rehab said:

“We condemn this despicable act of hatred. To desecrate the memory of the dead with a symbol that not too long ago brought about the senseless murder of millions of Jews is not just an affront to Jews, living and dead, but to all people of good conscience. For never again to be never again, we cannot allow our Jewish neighbors to stand alone in such moments.” - Ahmed Rehab
