Northwestern's President Responds to CAIR-Chicago

TO READ CAIR-CHICAGO'S LETTER, CLICK HERE Dear Ms. Kudaimi:

Thank you for your note. As I hope you would understand, Congressman Kirk's remarks reflected his views on this issue, not those of Northwestern University. The conference at which he spoke was held at Northwestern, but the opinions of all of the speakers, including Congressman Kirk, were theirs alone.

Northwestern students and faculty invite many speakers to campus who espouse widely differing viewpoints on a variety of topics. I believe one of the important attributes of a university is that it provides a place for the open exchange of ideas, even ones with which I may personally disagree. Congressmen Kirk's remarks expressed his personal views, not those of the University.

Again, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.

Best wishes, Henry S. Bienen

Feedback:

Bravo to Ahmed Rehab for his objections to NU's Pres. & to the Sun-Times. Narrow-mindedness is, sadly, a feature of people with small minds. Keep up the good work & I'm Roman Catholic.
