CAIR-Chicago Takes Part in the First Annual Developing Justice Summit

CAIR-Chicago Governmental Relations Coordinator Sadiya Ahmed and Governmental Relations Intern Serim Cetin went to Springfield Illinois on Thursday, March 23, 2006 with the Inner city Muslim Action Network. Volunteers went to Springfield to help push for House Joint Resolution 109 which mandates all Illinois General Assembly members to attend public hearing on sentencing reform legislation, currently in committee. Volunteers lobbied in the Illinois Capitol Building to get legislators to sign on to HJR 109. HR 4885, which proposes alternative sentencing for low level drug offenders, is currently in committee and expected to be brought to the General Assembly floor sometime during the November 2006 veto session.
