Muslim Man Receives Citizenship after Lengthy Delay

Another CAIR-Chicago client received his citizenship after a lengthy delay. The Muslim man applied for citizenship in 2005, and finally obtained his citizenship after two years of waiting. Like many Muslims, the man applied for citizenship and passed all necessary requirements, but was made to wait because of delays in the background check process. CAIR-Chicago Staff Attorney Bitta Mostofi filed a complaint in federal court on behalf of the man. As a result, the man’s application was cleared and he was issued notice to take the oath for citizenship after an update interview. CAIR-Chicago continues to represent individuals experiencing delays in obtaining their citizenship.
