Media Advisory: CAIR-Chicago to Host Workshop at Minority Media Convention
(CHICAGO, IL, 7/24/08) - On Saturday, July 26, the Chicago chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Chicago), in cooperation with New Islamic Directions, will co-sponsor a workshop for journalists, titled "Presumption of Guilt: Media Treatment and Coverage of Muslims in America," at the UNITY '08 convention. UNITY '08 is the nation's largest gathering of journalists of color. Some 10,000 journalists and media executives will "meet to discuss timely issues affecting journalism and the media industry." CAIR-Chicago's representative will be joined by Imam Zaid Shakir, an internationally-known Islamic scholar to shed light on the complexities of the Muslim community in America, media coverage of Muslims and how that coverage can be improved.
