Join Coalition to Protest Boeing ‘Torture Flights’

Join the Coalition to Ground Torture Flights at a protest at the annual Boeing shareholder’s meeting to demand that the company respond to allegations that it is an active participant in so-called “torture flights.” Feature 323This is a part of the Coalition’s continuing public actions as a campaign to educate Boeing shareholders and the general public about reports that Boeing is profiting from torture and to demand accountability for Boeing’s actions. Boeing is headquartered in Chicago.

WHAT: Protest at Boeing Shareholder Meeting

WHEN: Monday, April 27, 2009, 9:00 a.m.

WHERE: McFetridge Drive, on the back (south side entrance) of the Field Museum; 1400 S. Lake Shore Dr, Chicago, IL 60605-2496

DETAILS: Peaceful picket and distribution of flyers to arriving Boeing shareholders, on a public sidewalk, where no permit is required.

It is important to have a significant presence both to make the point about Boeing/Jeppesen involvement in torture flights and to assert participants' First Amendment rights of peaceable assembly in public space.

COALITION MEMBERS: Council on American-Islamic Relations–Chicago; Chicago Committee to Defend the Bill of Rights (CCDBR); 8th Day Center for Justice; Kick Boeing to the Curb; American Friends and Service Committee – Chicago; Wellington Avenue Church; Voices for Creative Non-Violence; St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Worker House and other civic groups.

An ongoing ACLU lawsuit charges that Jeppesen, a wholly owned subsidiary of Boeing, sold direct flight services to the CIA that enabled the delivery of captives in U.S. custody to secret overseas locations where "friendly governments" as well as CIA operatives carried out and arranged their torture
