THOUSANDS OF CHICAGOANS TO RALLY FOR EGYPT - TOMORROW

Chicagoans Demand the President Forcefully Call for Democracy in Egypt Obama Call for Mubarak

(CHICAGO, 2/3/11) - Thousands are expected to rally tomorrow in downtown Chicago to demand that President Obama forcefully call for Democracy in Egypt.

“Our current ambivalent policy towards Egypt is predicated on the unknown and fear. But those fears do not match the reality of what’s on the ground in Egypt,” said rally organizer and local university lecturer, Laith Saud.

“The purpose of the rally is to have people in the president’s home town of Chicago reach out to the president to call on a policy towards Egypt that is based on facts and not fears,” said organizer Yaser Tabbara. “The democratic aspirations of the Egyptian people are good for Egypt and good for America and it is our sincere expectation that our policies never come at the expense of our democratic principles.”

“I do not march to oust the president. He must leave, but only as a means to an end, not an end in and of itself. If we conclude an era of dictatorship only to sink into an era of alternative dictatorship or chaos, we have done nothing. The only acceptable end for which I march is the ushering in of a new era of true democracy and stability,” said Ahmed Rehab.
